Read below for what we can offer with your vehicle. We have also created dedicated sections on our website for specific additional services you may require.
The Equipment
6 Sensor CCD 4-Wheel Alignment System
We are fortunate enough to have some of the most up-to-date, precision 4 wheel alignment equipment which, combined with our scissor lift and accurately surfaced workshop, allows us to accurately set the geometry of your car. Our AbsoluteAlignment 6 sensor CCD 4-wheel aligner features pro wheel clamps that engage precisely with the rim of the wheel allowing the most accurate positioning of the sensor heads for measurement of all alignment values meaning we can adjust all elements of your car’s geometry, where the components allow, to a fraction of a degree!
The AbsoluteAlignment system is designed to work with all vehicles standard or modified, boasts database access for all factory alignment settings and features a ‘before & after’ geometry report which gives you the customer a complete run-down of the adjustments made for you to take away with you. Our kit allows us to work with wheels up to 24” in diameter with optional extended wheel clamps for use with larger applications. We also utilise turn plates for all of our setup procedures which allows the suspension of your car to fully settle and assume it’s natural, unloaded resting state which is exactly what’s needed for accurate readings and adjustments.
The Adjustments
What Changes Can Be Made To Your Wheel Alignment
Toe
Toe alignment is the extent to which your tyres turn inward or outward when viewed from above. If that’s confusing, just stand up and look down at your feet. Angle them inward toward the centre of your body. When the tires on your car are angled the same way (remember, we’re thinking in terms of birds-eye-view), we call this toe-in alignment. Angle your feet outward and you have toe-out alignment. Both require adjustment.
Camber
This is the inward or outward angle of the tyre when viewed from the front of the vehicle. Too much inward or outward tilt, also known as negative and positive camber, respectively, indicates improper alignment and will need to be adjusted. Worn bearings, ball joints, and other wheel-suspension parts may contribute to camber misalignment.
Caster
Your caster angle helps balance steering, stability, and cornering. Specifically, it’s the angle of your steering axis when viewed from the side of your vehicle. If you have positive caster, the steering axis will tilt toward the driver. Negative caster, on the other hand, means the steering axis tilts toward the front of your vehicle.
The Procedure
How We Align & Setup Your Vehicle
As with all our work here at Carbonwurks our alignment and setup services follow exacting procedures for the best possible accuracy and quality. This couldn’t be more appropriate here where we will be setting your geometry to within fractions of a degree and genuinely appreciate the satisfaction of an arrow-straight steering wheel position.
All our alignment services start with a complimentary steering & suspension health check to confirm the serviceable condition of the running gear, wheels and tyres on your car ahead of carrying out any measurements or setup – this is a critical step as any worn or damaged components would negate any efforts made to optimise geometry.
Having established that your car is ready for alignment we will then get it set down ready for our alignment equipment to be attached and measurements taken. The first and crucial step is to check and adjust the tyre pressures to ensure they are balanced across the axle and not likely to skew our readings. Following on from this we will then position the car over the lift and on top of our turn plates, the brakes are then locked out preventing the vehicle from moving and equipment will be installed. In the unfortunate situation that your wheels may have suffered previous damage to the rim our equipment allows us to rotate the mounting head avoiding any damage and allowing a true reading from a straight section of wheel.
Once the measuring equipment is mounted, we can make sure each individual sensor is set level which is imperative for accurate readings and then inputting vehicle and customer data into the machine. This will be the starting point for the guided initial measurement procedure including a dynamic check of caster/KPI (King Pin Inclination) before comparing live data to the factory specification. Our AbsoluteAlignment system has a special feature that compensates for lowered cars or extended front lips or spoilers meaning no car should be inaccessible for our equipment.
Now the initial measurements have been read we run the engine, balancing any power steering systems, and zero the steering wheel position before locking it in place ahead of adjustment. At this stage we can advise you on any adjustments necessary and discuss your specific needs to establish what sort of alignment setup is right for you and your car. We will then raise the car on the lift and make the appropriate adjustments before settling the car back on its wheels to complete the final post-adjustment measurements to confirm all adjustments have been made correctly.
Once this work has been carried out satisfactorily, the measurement data will be stored and a report generated before removing the sensor equipment. Where possible, we will carry out a final road test to verify our work and ensure your satisfaction on first visit.
As part of the alignment service we can mirror our system to the TV in our customer waiting area so we can work with you towards getting the best alignment setup for your vehicle and your requirement!
Once the alignment has been completed you will get a PDF print-out to show you where the car was before and where it’s now at to keep for your records!
